Plain-spoken finance

About me

Hi! I’m Eric. I live in Cincinnati with my wife and five kids.

All students in Ohio are required to take a class in Financial Literacy in order to graduate. “However, it is up to the local districts to determine how to best meet the needs of their students.”

I spent 20 years in the financial industry. First as a Business Analyst and Business Manager at Capital One Financial, and then as a partner at TFS Capital, an investment advisory company.

My partners and I shut down TFS a couple of years ago, after a successful 20-year run. Our flagship mutual fund was named Morningstar’s first Alternative Fund of the Year in 2012. Here’s me doing a rather mediocre job accepting the award live on CNBC. That was during my pre-beard days!

I’m creating a financial literacy class here that is geared toward high school students, though I think anyone looking for a solid introduction to money and finance should find it useful. Students are diving into spreadsheets in the very first lesson– no passive learning here!

I’m still building the class, and all of the content is completely free for now.

Of course, I can’t help but comment on the financial markets sometimes as well, but those blog posts are separate from the financial literacy class.

E-mail me with questions or comments! I’m still experimenting with this, so please let me know what you think! Thanks.
